NCS To Reward Excellence In Nigeria's ICT Industry

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has concluded arrangements to host this year's edition of its National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA).

NITMA is an annual event of the NCS since 2009 and the event is to honour and reward excellence and outstanding contributions in the Nigeria's Information Technology Industry (ICT). This year's edition of the award ceremony is taking place at the MUSON Centre, Onikan Lagos on November 14.

According to a statement signed by the Director, Corporate Affairs, NCS, Mr Iyiola Ayoola, the event aims to honour those who have made giant strides and significant impact in expanding the frontiers of ICT in the country. It added that it would also be a night of awards to celebrate the best of creativity and innovations that affect the society in fundamental ways.

Award winners, according to the NCS, are recognised for being inspiring symbols through their expertise and hard work, adding that the awards are also based on tremendous contributions to IT development in the country and in the diaspora.

Professor David Adewumi, the President of the NCS, the statement said believes that the NITMA event is about changing society, beaming positive light on the IT sector and building a legacy that speaks to the unique values NCS promotes.

According to the NCS, the event attracts not just professionals, innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs of the IT community, but also policy and decision makers in the private and public sectors of the economy.

The Awards are categorised and based on IT specialisation and NCS standards and global best practices. Among the categories of awards is the IT Personality of the Year Award. Expectedly, this is already generating immense interest within IT community as the most prestigious IT award. Also attracting serious attention are professional fellowships that will be conferred on deserving practitioners. Professional fellowship conferment is the highest recognition of professional excellence anyone can receive in IT practice in Nigeria.
