Harris will now become a free agent and search for a new opportunity elsewhere, less than a month before the tip-off of the new NBA season.

The Pistons acquired Harris, along with Taurean Prince, this offseason as part of a multi-team trade that also involved the Milwaukee Bucks.

Harris had a limited role with the Bucks last season, averaging just 2.7 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists across 48 appearances.

Earlier this summer, he exercised his $3.82 million player option.

Harris spent the first seven seasons of his NBA career with the Denver Nuggets before being traded to the Orlando Magic during the 2020-21 campaign in the deal that sent Aaron Gordon to Denver.

During his time in Colorado, he was widely regarded as one of Nikola Jokić's favorite teammates, and the Serbian superstar never hid how deeply his departure affected him.

"I remember saying goodbye to Gary Harris. I cried, I was really sad. We had a great connection and played well together. It was a tough moment for me; I think we found out as soon as we landed." — Nikola Jokić
