On Friday, March 19, 2021, UEFA did the quarter-final draws for their two club competitions, the Champions League and the Europa League, following the conclusion of the Round-of-16 fixtures.
We look at the fixtures from the Nigerian perspectives.
Sanusi’s Porto get Chelsea
Following their impressive performance in the Round-of-16, Porto have been drawn against Chelsea for the quarterfinals.
It will be another opportunity for Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi to impress in the Champions League, where he has had some fine performances this season.
Sanusi has looked right at home at Porto, the club he joined this season, and in his debut Champions League campaign, the Nigerian has shown he has the abilities to perform at this level.
Olayinka to face Arsenal
After scoring in the Round-of-16 against Rangers, Peter Olayinka will look to help Slavia Praha continue their run in the Europa League.
Arsenal are the next opposition, and Olayinka will look to add to his goal tally in Europe this season.
Iyayi Believe Atiemwen vs Samuel Chukwueze
Two Nigerians will clash in the last eight of this season’s Europa League as Dinamo Zagreb will face Spanish side Villarreal.
Atiemwen grabbed an assist as Zagreb shocked Tottenham in the last round and will look to add to his goal and assist tally in Europe in the last-eight.
The 25-year-old has two goals and an assist this season in the Europa League.
He will come up against Samuel Chukwueze, who is gradually getting into top form after a recent injury setback.
Chukwueze was fantastic in the last round and grabbed an assist in Villarreal’s win over Dynamo Kyiv.
