NFF identifies former Zambia and Ivory Coast coach as 'perfect' Eguavoen replacement
Nigeria Football Federation, the NFF, is wasting no time to find a replacement for the vacant Super Eagles position.
The managerial seat became vacant this week after Augustine Eguavoen stepped down as the interim boss following his failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria's Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the 2022 WCQ by Ghana at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday.
That result meant the end of the road for Nigeria as the Black Stars of Ghana qualified on away goal rule at the expense of the Super Eagles.
Interim boss, Eguavoen and his backroom staff quickly resigned their positions on Thursday, with the NFF happy to accept their resignation.
However, with the 2023 AFCON qualifiers not far away, the nation's football governing body has already found a replacement in the experienced Herve Renard.
The former Zambia and Ivory Coast coach is highly regarded in the continent after leading both nations to AFCON wins.
Renard, 53, is the current coach of the Saudi Arabian national team. He has also coached Ligue 1 outfit Lille and the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
The NFF is expected to name a permanent Super Eagles coach soon.
If you got this far, then, you've just read an April Fool piece. Happy New Month.
