Nigeria eliminated from 4 CAF awards categories, Oshoala makes final shortlist

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have revealed the final three shortlists for various categories of the 2022 CAF Awards.

Previously nominated Nigerians: Gift Monday, Flourish Sebastine, Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum, and Rivers Angels, were all missing from the final shortlist, with only Barcelona's Asisat Oshoala representing the country.

In the women's player of the year category; four-time winner Oshoala remain in the hunt for a fifth crown, although facing stiff opposition from Cameroon's Ajara Nchout Njoya and Zambia's Grace Chanda

In the men’s category, former winners’ Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane and Senegal's shot stopper Edouard Mendy, were the three named on the final shortlist.

The awards will be held in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday July 21, 2022.

Women's National Team of the Year

According to CAF, the winner of the WAFCON in Morocco will be crowned as the national team of the year. The winner will be announced on 23 July 2022 during the final match of the Women’s AFCON.
