Nigeria face FIFA rap
In one of the decisions reached by the Bureau of the FIFA Council, the ban will take effect by Monday, August 20 if the offices are not handed back to the legitimate NFF executive committee under Amaju Pinnick who was elected in September 2014.
The ban will affect Nigeria’s national team especially the Super Eagles who are scheduled to take on Seychelles in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in early September.
The Falconets who are currently competing at the ongoing 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France would however not been affected with the ban as the tournament is still underway.
“In line with art. 16 par. 1 of the FIFA Statutes, the Bureau of the FIFA Council decided that if by Monday, 20 August 2018, at 12:00 (CET), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) offices are not handed back to the legitimate NFF executive committee under President Amaju Melvin Pinnick, who was duly elected on 30 September 2014, the NFF will be suspended with immediate effect for contravening art. 14 par. 1 i) and art. 19, as well as art. 14 par. 1 a) of the FIFA Statutes,” FIFA said in a statement on their website.
FIFA said the suspension would only be lifted when Pinnick and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi have been given back effective control of the NFF and its offices.
Although Giwa has been thrown out of the office and Amaju Pinnick reinstated, Sports Minister Solomon Dalung continues to back Giwa against FIFA's Statues.
Pinnick and his Executive Committee held an Extraordinary General Congress in Benin City on Thursday, August 2 in Benin.
