Neymar, the all-time leading scorer for the Brazilian national team, could be hanging up his boots before the end of the year, according to reports from UOL.
Following Brazil's exit from the World Cup, the forward remained in the United States, spending time with his family. It is there that he is expected to make a final decision on his future.
Sources close to the coaching staff of his current club, Santos, suggest that Neymar might terminate his contract and retire from professional football. His current deal with the Brazilian side runs until December 31st.
The 34-year-old footballer rejoined Santos in January 2025 after a stint with Saudi club Al-Hilal. Prior to that, he was a key player for Paris Saint-Germain, who in 2017 paid a record-breaking €222 million to Barcelona for his services. With PSG, Neymar secured five French league titles, four Super Cups, three French Cups, and two League Cups.
During his illustrious career, the Brazilian also played for Barcelona, where he won two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey trophies, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
His professional journey began at Santos, where he lifted the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Libertadores.
Neymar holds the record as Brazil's top scorer with 80 goals in 130 appearances. With the Seleção, he earned a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games, a silver at the 2012 Olympics, a silver at the 2021 Copa América, and the Confederations Cup in 2013.
He returned to the Brazilian squad for the 2026 World Cup for the first time since October 2023. After their 2-1 loss to Norway in the Round of 16, the Brazilian forward, who converted a penalty in added time, announced his retirement from the national team.
