There has been so much ado about the National Conference meant to chart a way forward for Nigeria as a nation.
But even as the conference staggers on, we have already begun to see cracks – as delegates recently argued on how decision will be taken, and many are now sceptical of any positive conclusion.
Even many more raised eyebrows over the ‘high’ allowances for the conference delegates.
But hope is high in some quarters. It is in this premise that I present this poem:
The binding cords are strained
And each of us is much pained
Hungry locusts parade our land
As divided we chose to stand
Each has in anger thrown rocks
Each coined words with which he mocks
Each plotted the others to depose
His choices, on others, to impose
So let’s go to GEJ’s come-friends
Or are we enemies – Each pretends?
Perhaps there we’ll find our path
And reconnect our errant hearts
Brothers, it’s time to sit and talk
Let’s chew reconciliation’s stalk
I ask you, do you have faith in this conference? Do you think any positive thing will result? Do you have faith in Nigeria’s ‘oneness’?
Let’s discuss.
