French football club AS Monaco has officially announced the appointment of Filipe Luís as their new head coach.
The 40-year-old Brazilian takes the helm of the "Rouge et Blanc" following a successful stint managing Flamengo in his home country. He led Flamengo to a Copa Libertadores triumph last year but was dismissed several months later.
Under his guidance, Flamengo also secured the Brazilian Cup in 2024, the Brazilian Supercup, the Rio de Janeiro State Championship, and the national league title in 2025. These achievements earned him the South American Coach of the Year award for 2025.
As a player, Filipe Luís represented Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, Deportivo La Coruña, and Flamengo, winning numerous significant trophies throughout his career.
Monaco's previous head coach, Sébastien Pocognoli, was sacked in June after the team finished seventh in France's Ligue 1 with 54 points, 22 behind champions Paris Saint-Germain, failing to secure a Champions League spot for the upcoming season.
