Mohamed Salah hints at retirement after Egypt loses World Cup ticket to Senegal [Video]
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has hinted at retirement on the international scene.
The 29-year-old could not help the Pharaohs of Egypt as they lost again to the Terenga Lions of Senegal on penalties in a 2022 FIFA World Cup double-header playoff fixture.
Salah has now lost the World Cup ticket and the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to Senegal in three months.
Salah who was attacked by Senegal fans after Egypt lost spoke to his teammates hinting that he may not continue with this generation of players.
He said, “I told the players before the second match that I am proud to play with them and they are among the best I have played with.
“I played for some time with the previous generation, with Wael Gomaa and Mohamed Abu Trika, then Abdullah Al-Saeed and his generation, but I'm happy with the current generation.
“I am proud to play with you and it was an honour for me, and what happened cannot be interfered with by anyone because for the second time it is a penalty shootout (after the AFCON final).
"There is not much I can say but it has been an honour to play with you, whether I will be in the national team after that or not."
Ashraf Sobhi, Egyptian Minister of Sports sensed disappointment in Salah's statement and interrupted him, saying: "You will be there."
Salah now returns to Liverpool as he aims to help the Reds in the Premier League campaign against Watford on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
