After a remarkable World Cup campaign, Australian left-armer Mitchell Starc will take up to three weeks off to nurse a minor knee injury.

Mitchell Starc's stellar Cricket World Cup campaign has come at a cost to the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Australian paceman was crowned player of the World Cup on Sunday, after taking 22 wickets at 10.18 in the successful campaign of Michael Clarke's men.

But Starc, 24, will miss the opening stages of the IPL due to a knee injury.

The New South Welshman was named in Australia's squads to tour West Indies and England later in the year, but is expected to be sidelined for 2-3 weeks.

Starc was purchased by Royal Challengers for US$833,000 in the 2014 IPL Auction, and is set to team up with the likes of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Darren Sammy and countrymen Sean Abbott and Nic Maddinson at the franchise.
