Govt builds new university inside College of Education
Niger state government has approved the construction of a new University of Education within the state's College of Education located in Minna
Governor Abubakar Bello gave the nod for takeoff of work on the new institution during an inspection of the site on Wednesday.
Bello said the decision of establish the university came after "pieces of advice from different people," even though even though the state already owns the state-owned IBB university which "still needs more resources to survive."
"We have to look at our resources first. If we cannot afford to finance the university as times go by, then we will come back to our drawing board," Bello said.
The governor also commended the management of the College and promised to continue to promote quality education.
A governing board has already been instituted, headed by Professor Muhammed Daniyan who said staffs are already being trained to take up the task.
Daniyan said 57 and 97 academic staffs are currently studying for doctorate degrees and master’s degrees respectively.
