Lionel Messi commented on Argentina's dramatic 3-2 victory over Egypt in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. The "Albiceleste" captain shared his emotions after the impressive comeback, where the "Gauchos" managed to overturn a two-goal deficit.
"Honestly, I'm happy we advanced, especially given how we achieved it. Being down 0-2 was incredibly tough. It was great to get back into the game. It was extremely difficult for us again, but this is a World Cup. All matches are like this. Everything is evenly matched. I'm very happy," Messi stated.
"It was a relief for everyone, considering how the match unfolded. It's not easy to be losing 0-2... But, as I always say, this team never gives up and fights until the very end," he added.
"We were fortunate that Cristian Romero scored not too late; we still had time and managed to turn the score around in regular time. What the team did today was incredible. I'm very glad that people can continue to enjoy our game. I hope we continue in the same spirit," concluded the Argentina captain.
