Earlier this spring, it was announced that Max Verstappen's race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, is set to leave Red Bull and make the switch to McLaren. In his new role at Woking, he will serve as Racing Director, reporting directly to Team Principal Andrea Stella.

Lambiase was initially expected to join McLaren only in 2028 after serving a standard period of gardening leave to prevent key technical data transfer between Formula 1 rivals. However, reports now suggest he could start working at McLaren much earlier than anticipated.

"I'm optimistic and hopeful that we will see Gianpiero join us at some point next year," McLaren CEO Zak Brown stated. "I am very pleased with how the team has been operating. We had a tough start to the season, but we soon found our stride and enjoyed success, and I believe the situation is firmly under control now."
