McGuire signs new deal with Rhinos
Leeds Rhinos have retained the services of one of their stalwarts by tying Danny McGuire to a new two-year deal.
The Challenge Cup holders will begin the 2016 season without two players so instrumental to their successes in the past decade, with Kevin Sinfield switching codes to play rugby union for Leeds Carnegie and Jamie Peacock hanging up his boots to take up a role as football manager at Hull KR.
However, 32-year-old McGuire - Super League's record try-scorer - will extend his career with the Rhinos, having once again played a key role this term.
"Danny has been in outstanding form for us this season and been a virtual ever-present throughout the campaign," said Leeds coach Brian McDermott.
"He is part of a special generation of players who have influenced the history of this club and I know he still has a key part to play in our future."
McGuire added: "I never had any intention of going anywhere else. I'm a Leeds lad and I have played my entire career here but it is always nice to know the club sees you as part of their future too.
"We have had some incredible times over the last few years and this deal we mean I have been here for 20 years in total but it is the future that most excites me.
"We have got a fantastic group of young players that remind me a lot of the group of players I came through the academy with and, if I can help the team develop over the next few years, that is something I will very much enjoy."
McGuire, who scored his 256th try for Leeds as they retained the Challenge Cup by thrashing Hull KR at Wembley last month, has won six Super League Grand Finals and three World Club Challenges since making his debut in 2001.
