Max Verstappen claimed his first Sprint victory of the Formula 1 season after mastering a chaotic, rain-affected race in Singapore.

This marked the Dutchman's first-ever triumph at Marina Bay and his second consecutive win following his Bahrain Grand Prix victory in Malaysia last week. Ferrari team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc completed the podium behind the four-time world champion.

Championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli crossed the line in fourth, taking full advantage of the multiple incidents to climb three places from his eighth-place grid spot. Liam Lawson, Nico Hülkenberg, and Lando Norris rounded out the points-paying positions, though Norris faced a likely penalty for triggering a last-lap collision with team-mate Oscar Piastri.

The start was delayed by half an hour due to torrential rain hitting the circuit just before the scheduled start time, with proceedings getting underway via a standing start after two formation laps behind the Safety Car.

The entire grid opted for intermediate tyres for the start. Due to the extra formation lap, the race distance was shortened from 21 to 20 laps.

Start – George Russell made a flawless launch, jumping Verstappen off the line to take the lead ahead of the Dutchman, Hamilton, Leclerc, Piastri, Norris, Antonelli, and Lawson in the points positions.

Lap 1/20 – Russell spun on the exit of the final corner and crashed into the pit wall, bringing his race to an immediate end.

Lap 2/20 – Safety Car! Russell's crash brought out the Safety Car, with Verstappen leading Hamilton, Leclerc, Piastri, Norris, Antonelli, Lawson, Gasly, Bearman, Hadjar, Hülkenberg, Colapinto, Ocon, Lindblad, Alonso, Bortoleto, Albon, Bottas, and Sainz among those still running. Lance Stroll was already out after contact with Sergio Pérez at Turn 16, while the Mexican made it back to the pits before retiring as well.

Lap 3/20 – Hadjar pulled off into the run-off area at Turn 5 with mechanical trouble, retiring from the Sprint. Colapinto also suffered a failure and stopped on track in the third sector, bringing the total number of retirements to five.

Lap 5/20 – With multiple stranded cars to clear, the Safety Car remained out. Behind it, Lindblad suffered a spin, dropping to the very back of the pack.

Lap 6/20 – Restart! The track was finally cleared and the Safety Car peeled into the pit lane. Albon, Bortoleto, and Bottas immediately pitted following contact at Turn 16 before the restart, with only Albon rejoining after a front wing change.

Lap 7/20 – Verstappen produced an excellent restart, giving Hamilton no opportunity to mount a challenge.

Lap 8/20 – After just one lap of green-flag running on the drying track, drivers began searching for wetter patches off the racing line to cool their tyres.

Lap 10/20 – At the halfway mark, Verstappen held a 1.3-second lead over Hamilton, who was 1.8 seconds clear of team-mate Leclerc. During the lap, Hamilton reported over team radio that the track was drying out.

Lap 11/20 – Antonelli, running sixth and 2.3 seconds behind Norris, complained of severe oversteer in his car.

Lap 13/20 – The Ferrari drivers began to lose pace, allowing Verstappen to extend his lead to 3.3 seconds over Hamilton, with Leclerc a further 1.4 seconds adrift. The Monegasque was 3.4 seconds ahead of Piastri, who had team-mate Norris lurking a second behind.

Lap 15/20 – With five laps remaining, Verstappen stretched his advantage to 4.7 seconds over Hamilton, who led Leclerc by 1.8 seconds. Norris was asked if conditions were ready for slicks in the event of a Safety Car, but the driver confirmed the circuit was still not suitable for dry tyres. At the end of the lap, Albon pitted to retire from the Sprint.

Lap 16/20 – Leclerc reported that his front tyres were completely destroyed, losing over a second on that lap alone to Piastri, who closed to within two seconds of the Ferrari with Norris right behind him.

Lap 18/20 – Entering the penultimate two laps, Piastri, Norris, and Antonelli had caught Leclerc, who was visibly struggling with handling but retained enough rear traction to get good drive out of the slow corners.

Lap 20/20 – Norris attempted a move on Piastri at Turn 5, resulting in contact between the two McLaren team-mates. Piastri crashed out into the barrier, while Norris managed to continue, dropping down to eighth.
