Max Verstappen: It's Always Tight Here, You Have to Get as Close to the Walls as Possible

Max Verstappen admitted he was surprised by Red Bull's pace at the Marina Bay Street Circuit after claiming pole position ahead of tomorrow's Sprint in Singapore.

"It's always tight here in Singapore. On the lap itself, you push as hard as possible, trying to get as close to the walls as you can in certain sections. Once we put the soft tyres on, the car seemed to come alive a bit more, but I really didn't expect this. Of course, I'm very pleased to be on top. I think we've been much stronger in recent races, and this track exposes some of our car's weaknesses, but we're managing to work around them in the best possible way," Verstappen said.
The Dutchman's pole position is not yet fully secured, however, as he faces a post-session summons from the stewards. Verstappen must explain an alleged yellow-flag infringement during the first phase of qualifying, which could theoretically land him a five-place grid penalty.
