The Blue Oval's last victory came at the rain-shortened 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, where Giancarlo Fisichella claimed a dramatic win, with his car catching fire shortly after the race was red-flagged.

McLaren's Kimi Räikkönen was initially declared the winner in Brazil, but the FIA later reviewed the timing data and awarded the victory to Fisichella. Räikkönen formally handed the trophy over to the Jordan driver two weeks later ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola.

Ford withdrew from Formula 1 at the end of 2004 without scoring another podium following Fisichella's win. The American automotive giant returned to the pinnacle of motorsport at the start of this season in partnership with Red Bull.
