Bonnetti makes bold decision on Osimhen vs. Immobile, Vlahovic

Italian pundit Matteo Bonnetti has weighed in on the conversation surrounding the best strikers so far in the 2022/23 season of the Italian Serie A.

Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic is currently the highest goalscorer in the Serie A this season with seven (7) goals while Ciro Immobile, Dusan Vlahovic, and Lautaro Martinez all follow in joint second place with six (6) goals each.

Napoli's Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has four (4) goals to his name, with his most recent league goal being the winner in the league leaders' 1-0 win over AS Roma on Sunday.

Despite not currently leading the goalscorers' chart, Bonnetti believes that Osimhen is the best striker in the league currently, even ahead of Vlahovic and Immobile.

The Italian pundit said on a show posted on Twitter by CBS Sports Golazo that Osimhen edges both Immobile and Vlahovic because of his ability to strike fear into any defence.

Bonnetti said: "It is easy to go with Ciro Immobile because of the number of goals he has scored, or Dusan Vlahovic because of his goals at Fiorentina.

"However, I choose Victor Osimhen because of the fear he puts in the defence. If you play a high line, he will get in behind.

The Italian journalist went on to claim that Osimhen could score as many as 25 goals this season if he manages to stay fit all season.

“He has not had a full season, he has gotten injured in every season he has been at Napoli," Bonnetti explained further.

"If he can stay healthy for an entire season, he is a 25-goal per-season striker. But it is just more of the danger that he puts into the defence.”

Osimhen has been unfortunate with injuries since he joined Napoli, having just returned from a hamstring injury earlier this month.

Napoli will return to action on Wednesday, October 26 when they welcome Rangers to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for their UEFA Champions League fixture.
