Manchester City's home fixture against Sunderland on Sunday will be their toughest test of the season so far, according to Enzo Maresca. The Sky Blues boast a perfect record after four matches, having recently overcome fierce rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford, despite playing a significant portion of the game with ten men. Sunderland, a revelation in the Premier League last season, have managed only one league win and four points this campaign. In their last outing, the Black Cats put in a strong performance against champions Arsenal but ultimately fell to a 2-0 defeat.
“Over the past two days, I've watched three or four of their matches. I know how strong they are, and I have a feeling we'll need a top performance on Sunday to beat them.”
“I watched their game against Arsenal live, and then I re-watched it over the last two days. When you observe their play, you understand their strength. Personally, I don't think they deserved to lose that match.”
“Again, they are a very strong team, excellently prepared by their manager. They've also had time together, so it's clear what they aim to do – both in possession and without the ball. My feeling after watching them is that Sunday will be our most challenging match of the season so far.”
“It's always good and special to play in front of our fans; it's much better here than away. It's important because a potential win would mean another success. But as I said, I have a feeling the match against Sunderland will be the toughest of the season so far,” Maresca stated at his press conference today.
The manager added that he hopes Jérémy Doku will also be available for the encounter, clarifying: “He will probably be able to play against Sunderland.”
