Speaking after the race in Japan, the world champion explained that securing the maximum 37 points was vital for his weekend. By achieving that target, he has moved within just two points of Jorge Martin in the title battle heading into the final six rounds of the season.

"It was important to try and take the maximum 37 points, and we managed to do it, so I'm very happy. It was a tough race, especially while running behind Jorge, but I knew that if I managed to take the lead, I had strong pace. Jorge tried to attack, but I simply picked up the pace, and that gave me enough breathing room to manage the last two laps comfortably," the race winner commented.
