Marc Marquez secured his maiden victory at Indonesia's Mandalika circuit after winning today's Sprint on Lombok Island, taking the outright lead in the MotoGP World Championship standings.
The multi-time world champion took full advantage of a nightmare outing for Aprilia to claim victory ahead of Ai Ogura and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Meanwhile, his primary title rival Jorge Martin crossed the line in fourth, having led until the halfway mark of lap nine out of 13.
"It was a very tough race right from the start. I saw Martin leading, started to push, and made a big mistake on lap three. He pulled away after that, but towards the end I started closing in on him, and then he seemed to have some issue with front tyre pressure or something. Either way, I felt better and better as the race progressed. My pace was strong. I tried to manage the risk and keep the gap to Ogura under control. These 12 points are crucial," said Marquez.
