The 22-year-old Brazilian international, who can operate as a number 6 or 8, has already agreed to personal terms with the Old Trafford club and has received permission from Chelsea to travel and finalize the transfer. Under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2030, Andrey Santos was a target for several clubs, but his desire for regular first-team football influenced his decision to leave, a prospect that became less likely after Moises Caicedo's contract extension until 2033.

Reinforcing the midfield has become a priority for Manchester United this summer, especially following Casemiro's departure at the end of the 2025-26 season and Manuel Ugarte's severe knee ligament injury sustained while on international duty with Uruguay at the World Cup.

The Brazilian international joined Chelsea in January 2023 from Vasco da Gama. In the 2025-26 season, he featured in 43 games for the London club, contributing three goals and four assists. Prior to that, he spent the first half of the 2023-24 season on loan at Nottingham Forest, making just two appearances, followed by an 18-month spell at Strasbourg, where he impressed with 12 goals and five assists in 45 matches.

According to The Athletic, the continued presence of Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo is currently the most probable scenario. However, the potential sale of Andrey Santos to a domestic rival could come as a surprise and cause discontent among some supporters.
