Manchester United has revealed the precise location for its new 100,000-capacity stadium, which will be part of a massive regeneration project for the area surrounding Old Trafford.

Last month, the club announced they had acquired 25 acres of land from industrial company Indurent. The plot is situated approximately 350 meters northwest of the current stadium.

The plot in question is located between Wharfside Way, Europa Way, and John Gilbert Way.

During an event on Thursday morning, where the masterplan for the broader Trafford Wharfside regeneration project was unveiled, United confirmed that the new stadium would be built on the acquired land.

These plans represent a shift from the conceptual designs published last March. The initial idea envisioned United's new stadium being built on land immediately west of Old Trafford, owned by railway logistics company Freightliner.

Freightliner had reportedly demanded around £400 million for the site – a sum significantly higher than United's estimated cost of approximately £50 million.

Collette Roche, United's Chief Operating Officer for new stadium development, stated that the facility's location would allow the club to “preserve the heritage, traditions, and matchday rituals that are so important to our supporters.”

“The publication of the Wharfside masterplan marks another significant milestone in our journey to create a world-class new home for Manchester United at the heart of a dynamic and transforming area for Trafford and Greater Manchester.”

“Together with our partners, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a destination that delivers lasting benefits for supporters, local communities, and the entire region for decades to come,” Roche added.

She added: “We are determined to build a world-class stadium with our fans, not just for them. Atmosphere, accessibility, and pricing will remain at the heart of our plans, and we look forward to continuing our engagement with fans and other stakeholders as we move into the next phase of design and development.”

Images released on Thursday morning only include a designation for the new stadium's location, not the specific canopy design presented last year.

United clarified that all images are indicative and solely intended to show the location. The club will now move into the stadium design phase, which they say will involve consultations with supporters.

The club stated that no decision has yet been made regarding the future of the current Old Trafford stadium.

Lord Sebastian Coe, who chairs the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force, said: “This is a great day and an important step on our journey towards achieving the best for Old Trafford in terms of sports, leisure, housing, and business.”

“The masterplan truly makes the upcoming transformation seem real and achievable – that it is indeed happening, and now! So much remains to be decided and clarified in consultation with all stakeholders, but the framework is definitely in place.”
