Van Gaal’s men held

Manchester United were held by Chelsea in a Premier League game played at Old Trafford on Monday, December 28.

David de Gea and his Chelsea opposite number Thibaut Courtois were impressive for both sides as they finished the game stalemate.

For Manchester United, this was a must-not-lose-game for them as after a run of four straight defeats have heaped intense pressure on coach Louis van Gaal.

United started and finished the game the brighter side, with Chelsea breaking forward on the counterattack to get their chances.

Juan Mata got the first chance for United in the third minute after firing a shot which hit the post with Courtois well beaten.

Eden Hazard was at the centre of everything good from Chelsea and was heavily targeted by Manchester United players.

Hazard drew fouls from everywhere as the game finished goalless at half time.

The Red Devils continued their dominance in the second half but still could not find an opening in the Chelsea defence.

Anthony Martial hit the post for Manchester United with a low drive which beat the goalkeeper and Wayne Rooney should have scored from a Memphis Depay cross.
