Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva is set to leave the club at the end of the season when his current contract expires. This news, which English and Portuguese media outlets reported weeks ago, has now been officially confirmed by Pep Lijnders, assistant to Josep Guardiola.

Silva, currently 31 years old, joined the Etihad Stadium from Monaco in 2017. On Saturday, he played his 450th match for the club, with whom he has won 19 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.

“You never look for a replacement for that type of player because such a player doesn't exist. Bernardo is unique. The way he controls the game, the way he moves, the way he receives the ball, the way he leads, the way he finds solutions. All these things. You never look for a replacement for one type of player. You look for someone who can grow with the team, who can fit into the starting eleven. And we hope that the players we have in the academy, as well as the young footballers we have already bought, will be able to take that step in midfield.

It will be difficult because when Bernardo doesn't play in a match, you see how much he is missed. And that's just one game. Imagine an entire season. But every good story has an end. I hope he enjoys the last six weeks and says goodbye in a fitting manner. He deserves all this attention,” Lijnders stated.
