EuroLeague officials have reportedly presented ABA League representatives with a proposal to enter the competition's ownership structure and acquire a majority stake.
According to Sport Klub, representatives from Dubai and Cluj also attended the meeting at EuroLeague's insistence. While neither club is currently among the ABA League's stakeholders, both are viewed as key players and long-term partners for EuroLeague.
EuroLeague aims to expand its footprint in European basketball and counter the NBA's growing global push, with the ABA League seen as a natural first choice given their long-standing partnership. At this stage, discussions remain in their infancy.
Although details of how EuroLeague plans to execute the takeover remain unclear, the competition already features several familiar faces in key roles. Former EuroLeague official Miguel Ángel Pérez heads the Referees Commission, while the sports director post is held by Turkey's Ibrahim Erkan, another prominent figure in continental basketball.
