'Osimhen is always offside' - Spalletti knocks Super Eagles striker
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has given feedback on Victor Osimhen after his return to action for the Italian club on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League.
The Super Eagles striker was a second-half substitute as Napoli defeated Ajax Amsterdam 4-2 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples to secure qualification to the Champions League knockout stages.
Osimhen also returned to the scoring sheet on the night, wrapping up the goals with an 89th-minute effort in front of the home fans.
Osimhen was too eager to run - Spalletti
Despite his goal-scoring return, Spalletti pointed out one minus in Osimhen's performance on the night after he came on for Giacomo Raspadori in the 50th minute.
As reported by BrilaFM, the Napoli manager stated that Osimhen was often caught offside because he was told eager and thus started his runs into the penalty box too early.
Spalletti said: "Osimhen was often offside because he was so eager that he started the runs early."
Spalletti says Osimhen not in right shape yet
The Italian tactician went on further to explain that Osimhen is not his usual battling self yet so the Napoli team tried to play more possession-based football and take advantage of Osimhen's aerial prowess.
"He is not yet in the right shape to help out his teammates, but we tried to keep the ball more in the second half and use Osimhen's ability in the air for long balls," Spalletti explained.
Osimhen would be hoping to hit his full stride again after making his return from injury with a Serie A clash at home against Bologna the next match on the schedule for Spalletti's side.
