Reds fall at West Ham

It’s not getting any easier for Jurgen Klopp as his Liverpool side suffered a loss in their first game of the New Year.

Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll’s headers sealed an important win for the hammers.

West Ham were a better team on the day as they came out tops in every area against Liverpool.

Antonio robbed Alberto Moreno of the ball and launched the counter-attack from the right before dashing to the area to meet Enner Valencia’s cross for West Ham’s first goal.

Liverpool were poor in the first half and created just two chances.

A low effort flashed across goal by Jordon Ibe in the opening seconds and a delicate curler from Emre Can which hit the bar in stoppage-time.

After the break, Klopp’s men were more intense but James Collins was impressive for West Hham at the back.

Philippe Coutinho was out of form and could not fashion out an chance likewise Roberto Firmino.

Andy Carroll scored the second with another powerful header, early in the second-half from a fine cross by Mark Noble after a sequence of pass-and-move.

Noble cleared off the line from Lucas Leiva, and Joe Allen missed the target when he ought to have pulled a goal back.
