Monaco and Lille played out a 1-1 draw in Round 8 of Ligue 1. The visitors led for the majority of the match courtesy of a goal from Kylian Mbappé's brother, Ethan Mbappé, but a red card for Lille defender Tanguy Nianzou gave the Monegasques a man advantage that eventually led to their equalizer.
The result keeps both sides level on 15 points near the top of the table, though neither will be completely satisfied, as the winner of tomorrow's clash between PSG and Lyon could take sole possession of first place.
Following a quiet opening 20 minutes, it was the visitors who struck first. Nineteen-year-old talent Soriba Diaoune, fresh off a midweek brace against Galatasaray, shone once again with a fine pass to set up Ethan Mbappé. The brother of the Real Madrid superstar made no mistake, finishing past Lukas Hradecky to give Lille the lead.
Les Dogues held onto their lead until midway through the second half, when a pivotal moment shifted the momentum. In the 66th minute, Lille defender Tanguy Nianzou committed a reckless foul on Paris Brunner and was shown a straight red card. The dismissal proved costly, and Monaco leveled in the 74th minute when Edan Diop's dangerous cross from the left ended up in the back of the net.
Monaco pushed for all three points in the closing stages, but the ten-man visitors held on to secure a share of the spoils.
