Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has praised Formula 1 bosses for fulfilling one of his key ambitions: bringing the championship back to Africa.

Formula 1 announced yesterday that Rwanda will join the calendar at the start of the next decade, hosting the African Grand Prix at a brand-new permanent circuit near the capital, Kigali. It will mark the sport's first return to the continent since the 1993 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami.
"I've always said that we need a race in Africa. For me, it's the most important and most beautiful continent. We race everywhere else except there, and there's no reason for that. A race in Africa is something I've been pushing for behind the scenes, and Stefano has been incredible—he's flown there so many times over the past few years and met with so many different people," Hamilton said regarding the Rwandan event.
