LeBron James has revealed he was on the verge of retirement at the end of last season before ultimately deciding to extend his historic NBA career. The 41-year-old veteran has since signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, embarking on a new chapter.
In a message posted after his transfer was made official, the four-time NBA champion confessed he believed he had played his last game: "I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn't ready to announce it, and I knew I needed time to truly decide, but I was almost certain I had played my last game," the NBA superstar admitted.
LeBron further stated that he was sincere during his final press conference of the season when he mentioned needing to reflect on his motivation to continue playing: "I was honest in that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and decide if I still love this game."
After several weeks of contemplation, he concluded that his motivation and passion for basketball remain strong, leading him to prolong his career. Convinced he can still compete at the highest level, LeBron James believes he can play a significant role in the Philadelphia 76ers' pursuit of an NBA title: "I still truly love this game. I still have more to give. I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team, and I'm excited to begin this final journey," he declared.
