The European basketball coaching market has been in turmoil over the past few weeks, with very few coaches escaping rumors of leaving their respective benches.
One name consistently linked with various clubs was our own Saša Đorđević, who was recently all but confirmed to take over Bahçeşehir. However, a surprising turn of events has unfolded.
According to Italian media reports, Đorđević is set to take the helm at Virtus Bologna, a team poised for a complete overhaul this summer.
Journalist Alessandro Maggi indicates that Đorđević will accept a two-year contract with the EuroLeague club, with the deal expected to be finalized by the end of the week.
It remains to be seen how Đorđević will fare with the Bologna-based black-and-whites, should the deal materialize. Virtus is expected to see departures this summer, including Saliu Nijang, Carsen Edwards, Alen Smailagić, Alessandro Pajola, and many others. This means the management and the new coach will have their work cut out for them in the coming months.
Notably, "Sale" previously coached Virtus from 2019 to 2021. His coaching career also includes stints with Olimpia Milano, Benetton, Panathinaikos, Bayern Munich, and Fenerbahçe, as well as the national teams of Serbia and China.
