Reigning World Champion Lando Norris could lose his Formula 1 crown as early as this weekend in Singapore, a full six rounds before the end of the 2027 season.

The Briton currently sits sixth in the drivers' standings, trailing championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli by 132 points. If the deficit extends to 150 points or more following the race at Marina Bay, Norris will officially be out of contention to defend his title.
That would make Norris the first driver to fail to defend his title since Jenson Button in 2010. This excludes Nico Rosberg, who never attempted to defend his 2016 crown after choosing to retire from the sport just days after his triumph.
