Kyrie Irving agrees to contract extension with Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving will sign a five-year maximum contract extension through to the end of 2019-20.

Irving and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert confirmed the agreement on Twitter, but it cannot be signed officially until July 10.

The Australia-born 20-year-old, the top pick in the 2011 draft, had a year remaining on his contract.

Irving's extension is reportedly worth approximately $90million.

Gilbert tweeted: "Looking forward to the next 6 years of @KyrieIrving in CLE. Just shook hands &intend to sign on the 10th. Cant be more excited about @cavs..."

"I'm here for the long haul Cleveland!!! and I'm ecstatic!! Super excited and blessed to be here and apart of something special.#ClevelandKID," Irving added.

Irving has averaged 20.7 points and 5.8 assists in his first three seasons in the NBA.

He won the MVP award in the NBA All-Star game in 2014 after scoring 31 points and having 14 assists for the Eastern Conference.
