Lecturers, management at war over inauguration of ASUU
The Management and academic staff of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete are at loggerhead over the inauguration of the local branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the academic staff members have inaugurated a branch of ASUU with Dr Dauda Adeshola as its caretaker chairman.
Adeshola, in a release on Monday in Ilorin said that the union had also elected Dr Shehu AbdulGaniyi as Secretary in preparatory to holding full election.
However, the Principal Protocol Officer of the university, Hajia Hamidat Yusuf dismissed the association, describing it as illegal, in another statement.
He therefore urged members to be resolute in their determination to bargain for better conditions of service for ASUU members in the university.
He assured members that the branch of the union would not contravene the laid down rules and regulations of the institution.
