Kramer Reveals Main Goal at Red Star to Sportal: "If I can have a similar career to Zirbes here, it would be great!" /VIDEO/
The news that Red Star had signed a player from Real Madrid, David Kramer, came as a bolt from the blue. Eyebrows were raised automatically, but the German also surprised many by expressing his desire to play for Red Star. This was perhaps even more surprising, but Kramer is familiar with the Belgrade derby. He watched those games in his younger days, and that's where his desire originated.
"Growing up, I watched a lot of basketball and saw many of those derbies between Partizan and Red Star. It was always in the back of my mind that one day, I hoped to play in such an incredible derby and for such an amazing club like Red Star. This year, I finally got that opportunity." - David Kramer
Comparisons to Maik Zirbes were inevitable, and Kramer's goal is to forge a legacy similar to the German center's time in the red and white jersey.
"I hope so, definitely! He had an incredible career here, and Maik was also a very good player. I hope I can have a similarly successful career here as he did." - David Kramer
He also aims to learn Serbian.
"I'll try, I'll do my best. My goal is to learn many languages, so I think now that I'm in Serbia, the goal is to learn Serbian as well." - David Kramer
On the court, he brings immense quality, primarily defensively, and he wants to make an impact on the team in that way.
"I appreciate that. To be honest, I'm just trying to do everything possible that the team needs from me. I think defensively, I want to make a big impact this year. Offensively, everyone knows I'm a shooter, but I want to expand my game so I can play on both sides of the court. For me, the goal is to be able to play on both ends of the court, to be a threat offensively, but also a threat defensively, to help the team win and to make my team and everyone around me better." - David Kramer
He knows what it's like to work with Spanish coaches. He played for Granada, Tenerife, and Real, and now he has another Spanish coach by his side, Ibon Navarro.
"For the last three years, I've been with two Spanish coaches, and they were incredible. Now I know Ibon; he's had an amazing coaching career in Spain. When I got the call from Ibon, I was very excited to play for him. I think he does a great job with his teams when you look at what he's done in the past, especially in Malaga. So yes, as I said, I'm very excited and can't wait." - David Kramer
"Serbian basketball is certainly one of the best in the world, and they always bring out the best in us. I think it's always beautiful basketball to watch; they play beautiful basketball, they've always played beautiful basketball... So it's always exciting to play against Serbia." - David Kramer
Finally, he revealed his set goals.
"To be honest, my goals are to give my all, to bring the best to my team, to help the team achieve as many wins as possible, and to push for the playoffs. I think we have a very good team, a team that is very well-coached, we have excellent individuals, and the team chemistry is a lot of fun. So the goal is just to come here every day, give my maximum, help the team win, and that's it." - David Kramer
