Kosi emerges as Afrobeats new vibe dealer
In a music era where Afrobeats is shining on global charts, the Nigerian pop music scene is never short on new talent.
Now and then, an artist comes along with a sound that feels lived-in, soulful, and impossible to ignore.
Kosi is one of those names, and in less than two years of officially stepping into the game, he’s gone from church choir harmonies to charting on Spotify’s Top 100 with his debut EP 'Wave'.
Born and raised in Lagos, Kosi grew up surrounded by the pulse of street pop, the smooth bounce of Afrobeats, and the raw lyricism of hip-hop.
His influences range from Afrobeats heavyweights like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido to homegrown underground acts, but what sets him apart is his ability to translate his journey into songs that feel both intimate and infectious.
Signed to Sky Diamonds Entertainment, Kosi has quickly positioned himself as a storyteller with range, blending Afrobeats, Afropop, and Afro-soul into a style that’s as reflective as it is infectious.
His 2024 debut single, Blood in My Eyes, he made sure to set the tone with, but it was Wave that stamped him as one of the year’s most intriguing newcomers.
With textured vocals, philosophical lyricism shaped by his University of Lagos background, and melodies that float between street grit and soft introspection, Kosi isn’t chasing trends; he’s setting his own pace.
What makes him stand out is his refusal to overcomplicate his artistry. He writes alone, in silence, building songs from fragments of his daily life, transforming them into narratives that resonate with listeners who want more than just a beat drop, but a feel of relaxation.
Lagos is a city overflowing with energy, and Kosi offers moments of pause for us to enjoy some good music and dance, and later reminisce about it long after the party ends.
And if this is how he’s starting, it’s safe to say the world will soon be hearing a lot more from him.
