Tensions surrounding the NBA Finals continue to mount, with some New York Knicks fans once again crossing the line. As San Antonio Spurs' French superstar Victor Wembanyama returned to the team hotel after a loss, an individual from the gathered crowd pelted him with eggs.
This marks another instance of unacceptable fan behavior during the Finals. The euphoria surrounding the Knicks' strong performance throughout the series has led to widespread celebrations in New York, but on several occasions, these have escalated into aggressive displays.
Following the team's victory in Game 2 last Friday, New York police reported 17 arrests outside Madison Square Garden, where a public viewing of the game was organized for Knicks supporters. A police officer was also assaulted during the unrest.
Meanwhile, social media was flooded with videos showing Knicks fans harassing and attacking San Antonio Spurs supporters on the city streets.
The incident involving Wembanyama raises new questions about security surrounding the Finals series and the conduct of some fans who allow their passion for the sport to devolve into unacceptable aggression.
After their dramatic success in Game 4, New York leads the series 3-1.
