According to a This Day newspaper report,  Rohr in a meeting with the Techincal Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) pinpointed Iheanacho’s lacklustre performance as one of the reasons why the Super Eagles lost that game.

"We gathered that Rohr admitted that failure of Alex Iwobi of Arsenal and Iheanacho to click and dominate, arose from irregular playing time at their respective clubs in England," part of the report reads.

Iheanacho spent the majority of last season on the bench and situation even got worse with the arrival of Gabriel Jesus at Manchester City.

Following Gabriel’s arrival, the 20-year-old was left out of the machday squad for five consecutive league games and subsequently featured sparingly at the second half of last season.

He has been linked with Premier League sides, Leicester City and West Ham.
