Team Nigeria has already won three bronze medals at the ongoing Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Open in Cairo.
The bronze medals were won on Wednesday, June 10 in junior boys’ singles, junior girls’ team and Cadet Boys’ team
The Junior and Cadet T/T Open competition started on Monday, June 8 and will end on Friday, June 12.
12 countries are participating in the competition- Algeria, Botswana, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, India, Nigeria, Qatar, Slovenia, Togo, Tunisia and the host country, Egypt.
For the junior boys’ team, the recipients are Nurudeen Hassan, Olasunkanmi Oginni and Amen Amadi, while the recipients for the junior girls’ team are Tosin Oribamise, Ajoke Ojomu and Alimot Ayinla.
Michael Obayomi and Abayomi Animashaun won for the Cadet Boys team.
Oginni (junior boys’ team), Ojomu and Oribamise (junior girls’ team) were seeded at the tournament.
Oginni had 724, 00 points, Ojomu 742, 00 and Oribamise 1054, 00 according to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) May ranking which qualified them for seeding.
Oribamise told newsmen that her ambition was to clinch the gold but was unable to achieve her goal. She promised to do her best to win the gold medals in the cadet singles, junior singles and junior girls’ doubles.
