UFC Flyweight Champion Joshua Van will not be competing at the upcoming UFC 327 event in Miami next week. The news has been confirmed by multiple sources familiar with the situation, though the reasons for his withdrawal remain undisclosed.
UFC announced during the UFC Vegas 115 broadcast on Saturday night that the flyweight title bout has been rescheduled. The fight will now serve as the main co-feature at UFC 328, set to take place on May 9th in Newark, New Jersey.
UFC 327 is scheduled for April 11th at the Kaseya Center, with the main event featuring Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg battling for the vacant light heavyweight title. The new co-main event will be a clash between Azamat Murzakanov and Paulo Costa.
Van (16-2) claimed the 125-pound belt in December after Alexandre Pantoja suffered a hand injury just seconds into their fight at UFC 323. With Pantoja sidelined, UFC opted to arrange a bout between Van and rising contender Taira for April 11th.
Taira (18-1) solidified his position as a title contender with a second-round knockout victory over former champion Brandon Moreno. This win occurred on the same night Van secured his belt. The triumph marked Taira's eighth win in nine Octagon appearances, with six of those coming via stoppage.
