Jordan Pickford Involved in Police Chase After Near-Miss in £165k Lamborghini
England's starting goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was chased by police at speeds of up to 50 mph after narrowly avoiding a serious crash in his Lamborghini.
The 32-year-old Everton shot-stopper forced two drivers to brake sharply to avoid a collision before accelerating away with a police patrol car in pursuit with flashing lights and sirens.
The incident occurred at around 3:00 PM on April 14 in Knutsford, Cheshire, close to the footballer's home. The England international was behind the wheel of his £165,000 Lamborghini Urus SUV.
The incident took place three days after a 2-2 draw away at Brentford for the side managed by David Moyes, and just five days before a 2-1 defeat in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.
PC Cecil Ricardo was leaving Knutsford police station when he spotted the blue SUV, which was fitted with a personalised registration plate bearing the goalkeeper's name.
In a written statement, the Cheshire Police officer said:
"I saw a blue Lamborghini Urus travelling along Princess Street. As it reached the junction with Toft Road, the vehicle completely ignored give-way road markings and pulled out, forcing two vehicles to perform emergency stops to avoid a collision. The Lamborghini then accelerated along Toft Road. I activated my emergency lights and siren and attempted to catch up. At one point my speedometer indicated 50 mph, yet the SUV was still pulling away, in what is a 30 mph zone."
The officer noted that the driver could not have failed to notice the emergency signals and pulled over after a brief pursuit.
"I approached the driver's side and the driver identified himself as Jordan Pickford. I cautioned him for driving without due care and attention and reported him for the offence. He made no reply."
Cheshire Police officially charged Pickford on September 23 via the Single Justice Procedure. The goalkeeper pleaded guilty online last Friday and requested an in-person court hearing in a bid to avoid a driving ban.
"I would like to attend court to present my mitigating circumstances," the footballer stated in his submission.
Pickford is scheduled to appear before Chester Magistrates' Court on December 7. The offence of driving without due care and attention carries a penalty of between three and nine points or a driving disqualification.
The Lamborghini Urus accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds and boasts a top speed of around 190 mph (305 km/h).
