Ghana, 2 other African teams will fail at 2022 World Cup - Okocha

Super Eagles legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has delivered a damning verdict on the chances of African countries at the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Morocco, Ghana, Senegal, Tunisia, and Cameroon are the five African nations billed to represent the continent at the football Mundial later next month.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to qualify for the World Cup at the last hurdle, losing their third-round World Cup Qualifiers playoffs to the Black Stars of Ghana.

With the World Cup less than one month away, Okocha revealed a grim expectation from the African representatives as he stated that he has little confidence in them.

Okocha noted that he believes Africa is not only behind the likes of South America and Europe in terms of football development but also Asia and North America in recent years.

Okocha told cartonsport as reported by Ghanasoccernet: "It is the first time I'm not confident about Africa's chances in the World Cup.

"If you look at Asia and North America, they seem stronger and more advanced than us. 

"We were already 50 paces behind South America and Europe, and now North America and Asia seem to be ahead of us."

Giving his verdict on the African representatives to the World Cup, Okocha believes that only Senegal and Morocco stand a chance of qualifying from the group stage while Ghana, Tunisia, and Cameroon are likely to fail at the first hurdle.

"We have hopes in Senegal and Morocco, they seem the strongest. Tunisia, Ghana and Cameroon seem to be a stepping stone for other teams to reach the knockout stages," Okocha stated.

The Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off on Sunday, November 20 at the Al Bayt Stadium with hosts Qatar taking on Ecuador in the first match.
