Jacquet becomes Liverpool's latest key doubt ahead of Manchester City showdown
Liverpool risk losing yet another of Andoni Iraola's standout performers this season. Centre-back Jérémy Jacquet, who has also established himself as a regular starter under Zinedine Zidane, missed France's victory over Belgium yesterday. The French federation confirmed that the defender was sidelined due to a left thigh strain.
The 21-year-old is returning to Liverpool to undergo medical assessments to determine whether the injury will rule him out of Sunday's crucial showdown against Manchester City.
Worryingly for the Reds, their three most in-form players this season—Jacquet, Alexander Isak, and Cody Gakpo—are all doubtful for the clash with City following injury concerns picked up on international duty.
Jacquet has started all five of Liverpool's Premier League fixtures so far this season. If he is unavailable on Sunday, Iraola will have to choose between Ronald Araújo and Joe Gomez to partner Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence. The Uruguayan has impressed in recent outings, although he has been deployed at right-back, while Gomez spent the start of the campaign recovering from another injury setback and has managed just 45 minutes of action to date, coming in the Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham.
