In a remake of a previous group match, Korea got their revenge over Vietnam, who were still without a recognised feeder yet fought valiantly over three sets.
The second seeds decided to start with two tekongs this time: Giap Thi Tien began in the circle (three aces, four winners and five faults) before Bui Thi Hai Yen took over and served an incredible 33/35, while still moving over to feed when they were receiving.
This was enough to win Vietnam the second set after dropping the first, but in the decider, Hyunju Kim stepped up to the plate. She finished the match with 26/31 spikes but an incredible 13 blocks, including four points in a row, and that enabled Korea to squeeze into third.
In the battle of the two teams eliminated after the group stages, Malaysia ran with their top three and squeezed past Japan into fifth place overall. Norzubaidah served well (30/36, one ace, three saves), while Nurul Izzatul continued her good form at the net (25/27 spikes, two blocks).
