The 2027 World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) calendar was unveiled yesterday, scheduled to conclude at the Shanghai International Circuit in China.

This immediately sparks speculation over whether MotoGP could also be preparing for a comeback in China, with the WorldSBK round acting as a litmus test for local enthusiasm for two-wheeled motorsport. Given that both series are promoted by Dorna, such a prospect is far from improbable.

MotoGP previously hosted a round in China at the Shanghai circuit between 2005 and 2008. The original contract was set to run through 2011, but lacklustre fan interest and poor attendance led to the deal being terminated three years ahead of schedule.
