Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has provided an update on the condition of Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong after both were forced off during today's clash against Brentford, with the latter lasting just five minutes on the pitch. The Hungarian had missed the last two matches through an injury picked up on international duty. He started the game but felt discomfort after half an hour and had to be substituted, though the manager moved to ease fears by clarifying that the midfielder simply had not fully recovered rather than sustaining a new setback.
"In the last Champions League game, Jeremie Frimpong suffered from cramps, so we knew he wouldn't be able to start. Playing against ten men, I expected him to offer us more going forward, but as soon as he came on, he felt something in the muscle. Dominik Szoboszlai gave it a try. He trained over the past few days, but we were unsure how long he could play. It's not a new injury—he just hasn't fully recovered yet."
"A lot happened during the game. The first half was fairly even, and we had a clear-cut opportunity. They scored just before the break, leaving us to chase a comeback in the second half. I thought we played really well up until going 2-1 ahead. After that, we tried to protect the lead, but we didn't manage the closing minutes well at all.
Some of the lads had great chances to kill the game off but couldn't convert. We lacked composure on the ball. At times, we just needed to keep possession a bit longer instead of trying to score at the first opportunity," the Merseyside boss added, reflecting on a hard-fought contest in which Liverpool managed to secure a vital comeback win.
