Iraola: I Have No Doubt About the Squad's Potential and Quality, Very Pleased with Araujo Transfer
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola believes his squad is “moving in the right direction” as the new season approaches. The Reds will conclude their pre-season friendly schedule with two matches against Como on Sunday. The first fixture will be played behind closed doors, while the second kicks off at 8:00 PM Bulgarian time at Anfield.
These will be Iraola's fifth and sixth games in charge, with just over a week remaining until their Premier League opener against Newcastle.
“This will be a very good and crucial test for us as we finalize our preparations for the new Premier League season. Despite the result, last week's match against Monaco offered many positives and valuable lessons for me and my staff.
The first half, particularly the opening 30 minutes, was very satisfying. It was great to see Alexander Isak get on the scoresheet and look sharp, and I observed many good things both with and without the ball. The issue we faced, similar to the Leeds game in Chicago, was our inability to maintain that level, which is something that only comes with time and diligent work on the training ground.
I've spoken many times about the type of team I want to see on the pitch – the intensity, intent, and energy we're striving for. While it's clear there's still much room for improvement, I believe we are heading in the right direction, and I expect this progress to continue in the coming days and weeks as the season begins.
I have no doubt about the quality and potential within our squad, and now it's up to us to consistently demonstrate that moving forward.
On a personal note, I want to thank you all for the wonderful reception I received last weekend. It meant a lot, and I hope we can give you plenty to cheer about, both on Sunday and beyond,” Iraola told the Liverpool website.
On Monday, Liverpool bolstered their squad with the addition of Ronald Araujo, as the Uruguayan defender joined on a season-long loan from Barcelona.
Regarding his latest signing, Iraola added: “This week, we also welcomed a new addition to the club, with Ronald Araujo joining us on loan from Barcelona. Naturally, we are very pleased to have added a player of such quality and experience, and I am confident he will adapt quickly and make a positive impact on our team.”
