Inter defender Manuel Akanji has voiced hope that he will not be stripped of the silverware he won during his time at Manchester City. The Switzerland international turned out for the Sky Blues between 2022 and 2025, lifting two Premier League titles. The English club was recently found guilty of breaching financial regulations.

"I'm still in touch with some of the players, but I don't know any more than you do. We were told to stay calm, that the club has the situation under control, and that nothing serious has happened. I trust the Manchester City board and believe that's the case. I just hope I won't be stripped of my titles. That would be quite a shame, but I'm only finding things out from the news as well," Akanji said at the Trento Sports Festival.

Journalists pointed out to Akanji that his honours with City are not under threat, as the ruling spans the period from 2009 to 2018—well before the defender arrived at the Etihad. The Swiss international replied, even referencing the COVID-19 pandemic: "Who knows what else they might dig up. They're still searching for things related to the coronavirus, even though that happened more than five years ago."
